About Sun & Scale
Sun & Scale™ provides a game experience unlike any previous commercial roleplaying game material, though many may recognize the general feel of a Sun & Scale campaign from the days of 1st Edition. We accomplish this by focusing on a few things critical to creating that experience that have largely been ignored over the years:
- Exploration
The Western Empire is a frontier world - you truly do not know what lies over the next ridge until you go there, because there is not an established kingdom next door with a 500 year history. There is, however, the ruins of several fallen kingdoms and empires from more than 500-3,000 years in the past...
- Kingdom Building
Heroes are exceptional people that normal people will follow almost anywhere. In Sun & Scale, you begin accruing loyal companies and settlers from the very beginning of your adventures, but these people do not factor into your day-to-day adventures since they do what normal people do (raise crops, pursue trades, raise families, and so on). Managing your kingdom is something you do when you are not busy slaying dragons that are menacing your people or searching for lost riches to fund the building of defenses.
- Living World
Sun & Scale is a living world. Seasons and years pass, migrating barbarians invade, diseases emerge and spread, natural disasters wreak havok, and regional monsters change as the ecosystems evolve. This system overlies everything else that occurs and helps the Game Master create a living dynamic world with a minimal effort.
